KRIYASAREERA — PHYSIOLOGY

Kriyasareera (Physiology)

The Department of Kriya Shareera is dedicated to the systematic study of normal physiological functions of the human body as understood in Ayurveda. It forms the essential foundation for understanding health and disease by focusing on the three fundamental pillars—Dosha, Dhatu, and Mala—along with related classical concepts such as Prakriti, Srotas, Koshta, Agni, Ojas, Manas, and Ahara.

Through structured academic teaching, students develop a clear and detailed understanding of these principles and learn to correlate traditional Ayurvedic physiology with modern biomedical science. This integrated approach enables accurate interpretation of bodily functions and lays the groundwork for clinical reasoning.

The department is supported by a well-equipped Kriya Shareera laboratory fitted with modern instruments. Students receive regular hands-on training in recording and interpreting key physiological parameters, including blood pressure, respiratory rate, body temperature, anthropometric measurements, reflex testing, spirometry, and basic ECG. Practical sessions also include heart sound auscultation, Nadi examination using specialised tools, haematology experiments, and urine analysis. In addition, students are trained to assess important Ayurvedic parameters such as Prakriti, Sara, Koshtha, Agni, Dosha, Dhatu, and Mala.

By combining theoretical knowledge with practical demonstration, the department helps first-year BAMS students build scientific, analytical, and observational skills. This strong physiological foundation prepares them for confident clinical practice and higher studies in Ayurveda.

Aims

  • To give a new scientific approach to undergraduate students to develop their potential to explore the concepts of Ayurvediya Kriyasareera.
  • To make the students competent to apply fundamentals of Kriyasareera in clinical practice and research.

Objectives

  • To build up thought process in students about the concept of Kriya Sareera along with contemporary human physiology.
  • To develop innovative teaching methods related to functional aspects of Sareera.
  • To equip the students with modern laboratory practices.
